The Fall of Man
A long time ago, when the world was new and perfect, Adam and Eve lived in a beautiful garden called the Garden of Eden. This garden was full of everything they could ever need—tall trees, juicy fruits, and sparkling rivers. Best of all, Adam and Eve got to walk and talk with God every day.
But one day, something happened that changed everything.
God’s One Rule
God gave Adam and Eve one rule:
“You may eat from any tree in the garden, but do not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil. If you eat from it, you will surely die.”
Adam and Eve happily followed God’s rule. After all, they had so many other delicious fruits to eat!
A Sneaky Snake
One day, a sneaky snake, who was really the devil in disguise, slithered up to Eve. The snake was clever and wanted to trick her.
The snake said, “Did God really say you can’t eat from any tree in the garden?”
Eve replied, “We can eat from the trees, but not from the tree in the middle of the garden. God said we must not eat it or even touch it, or we will die.”
The snake chuckled. “You won’t die! God knows that if you eat from that tree, you’ll become like Him, knowing good and evil.”
Eve looked at the tree. The fruit did look tasty, and she thought, Maybe the snake is right. Maybe it will make me wise.
The First Sin
Eve picked the fruit and took a bite. Then she gave some to Adam, and he ate it too.
As soon as they ate the fruit, something strange happened. They realized they were naked, and they felt ashamed. They quickly made clothes out of fig leaves to cover themselves.
Hiding from God
Later, when God came to walk with them in the garden, Adam and Eve hid.
God called out, “Where are you?”
Adam answered, “We heard You and were afraid because we were naked, so we hid.”
God asked, “Who told you that you were naked? Did you eat from the tree I commanded you not to eat from?”
Adam said, “The woman You gave me gave me the fruit, and I ate it.”
Eve said, “The snake tricked me, and I ate it.”
The Consequences
God was sad that Adam and Eve disobeyed Him. Because of their choice, everything in the world would change:
- God told the snake, “You will crawl on your belly and eat dust.”
- To Eve, He said, “Childbirth will be painful, and your husband will will rule over you.”
- To Adam, He said, “You will have to work hard to grow food from the ground, and it will be full of thorns and weeds.”
Then God made clothes for Adam and Eve from animal skins and sent them out of the garden. He put an angel with a flaming sword at the garden’s entrance so they could not return.
A Promise of Hope
Even though Adam and Eve disobeyed God, He still loved them. God promised to send a Savior—someone who would one day defeat sin and bring people back to Him.
Lesson
Even when we make mistakes, God loves us. We should tell the truth and ask God for forgiveness when we do something wrong. God is always ready to forgive and help us make things right.
