Cain and Abel
After Adam and Eve left the Garden of Eden, they started their family. They had two sons. The first son was named Cain, and the second son was named Abel.
Cain and Abel were very different, but they both worked hard. Cain was a farmer. He planted seeds, grew fruits and vegetables, and worked in the fields. Abel was a shepherd. He took care of sheep and made sure they were safe.
A Gift for God
One day, Cain and Abel decided to bring gifts to God to show how much they loved Him.
Cain brought some of the crops he had grown in his fields. Abel brought the best sheep from his flock—the very best one he had.
God looked at Abel’s gift and was very pleased because Abel gave God his best and gave it with a loving heart. But God was not happy with Cain’s gift because Cain didn’t give God his best, and his heart wasn’t in the right place.
Cain Gets Angry
When Cain saw that God was pleased with Abel’s gift but not his, he became very angry and upset. God noticed and said, “Cain, why are you so angry? If you do what is right, won’t you be accepted? But if you don’t, sin is waiting to take over your heart. You must choose to do what is right.”
But Cain didn’t listen to God. Instead, his anger grew.
A Terrible Choice
One day, Cain said to Abel, “Let’s go out to the field.” While they were there, Cain did something terrible—he hurt Abel so badly that Abel died.
God saw what Cain had done and asked, “Where is your brother Abel?”
Cain replied, “I don’t know. Am I my brother’s keeper?”
But God knew the truth. He said, “What have you done? Your brother’s blood cries out to Me from the ground.”
The Consequences
Because of what Cain had done, God punished him.
God said, “The ground will no longer give you food easily. You will wander the earth, and you will not have a home.”
Cain was scared and said, “This punishment is too much for me! What if someone hurts me because of what I’ve done?”
God, in His kindness, put a special mark on Cain to protect him. This mark was a promise that no one would harm him, even though he had done wrong.
A Lesson for All of Us
Cain left and went to live far away. He had to live with the consequences of his actions.
Lesson
This story reminds us how important it is to control our anger and make good choices. When we feel upset, we can talk to God and ask for help. God wants us to love and take care of each other, just like brothers and sisters should.
