Joseph in Potiphar’s House (Genesis 39)

Joseph in Potiphar’s House

Joseph’s brothers had sold him to traders, and he was taken far away to Egypt. It was a scary and uncertain time for Joseph, but he trusted that God was still with him.

When the traders arrived in Egypt, they sold Joseph to a man named Potiphar, who was an important officer for Pharaoh, the king of Egypt.

God is With Joseph

Even though Joseph was far from home, God was with him and blessed everything he did. Joseph worked hard and did his best in everything. Potiphar noticed this and saw that Joseph was a good and trustworthy man.

Potiphar was so impressed with Joseph that he put him in charge of his whole household! Joseph was responsible for everything Potiphar owned, and because of Joseph, God blessed Potiphar’s house.

A Difficult Situation

But one day, Joseph faced a big challenge. Potiphar’s wife noticed how good and hardworking Joseph was. She tried to get Joseph to do something he knew was wrong.

Joseph said, “I can’t do that! Your husband trusts me with everything. How could I do such a terrible thing and sin against God?”

Even though Joseph said no, Potiphar’s wife kept trying to get him to do the wrong thing. But Joseph stayed strong and did what was right.

Joseph is Blamed

One day, when Joseph was working in the house, Potiphar’s wife grabbed his coat and tried to stop him. Joseph quickly ran away, leaving his coat behind.

Potiphar’s wife was angry that Joseph wouldn’t do what she wanted, so she told a lie. She told Potiphar that Joseph had done something wrong.

Joseph is Put in Prison

When Potiphar heard the lie, he became very angry and threw Joseph into prison. It was unfair because Joseph hadn’t done anything wrong.

But even in prison, God was still with Joseph.

God Blesses Joseph in Prison

The prison warden noticed that Joseph was a good and trustworthy man, just like Potiphar had. Soon, Joseph was put in charge of all the other prisoners!

Even though Joseph was in a hard place, he continued to trust God and do his best. God blessed Joseph and had a plan for him, even in the middle of his troubles.

Lesson

Joseph’s story teaches us to do what’s right, even when it’s hard. God is always with us, even in difficult times, and He has a plan for our lives. When we trust God and stay faithful, He will help us through anything!
