Joseph’s Dreams
A long time ago, there was a young boy named Joseph. He lived with his father, Jacob, and his eleven brothers. Joseph was Jacob’s favorite son because he was born to Jacob in his old age.
Jacob loved Joseph so much that he gave him a special gift—a beautiful coat with many colors. Joseph’s brothers were very jealous of him because their father loved him the most. They didn’t like Joseph at all.
Joseph’s First Dream
One night, Joseph had a strange dream. The next morning, he excitedly told his brothers about it.
“Listen to my dream!” Joseph said. “We were in the field tying up bundles of grain. My bundle stood up tall, and all of your bundles gathered around it and bowed down to mine!”
His brothers were not happy. They frowned and said, “Do you think you’re going to rule over us?!”
This dream made them dislike Joseph even more.
Joseph’s Second Dream
Another night, Joseph had a second dream. Again, he couldn’t wait to tell his family.
“This time, I dreamed that the sun, the moon, and eleven stars were bowing down to me!” he said.
When he told his father and brothers, Jacob was surprised.
“What kind of dream is this?” Jacob asked. “Do you think your mother, your brothers, and I will all bow down to you?”
Even though Jacob wondered about the dream, he kept it in his heart and thought about what it might mean.
The Brothers’ Jealousy Grows
Joseph’s brothers became even angrier. They were already upset that Joseph was their father’s favorite, and now these dreams made them feel even worse.
They couldn’t understand why Joseph kept having dreams where he was important and everyone else was bowing down to him.
God’s Plan
Even though Joseph’s dreams upset his family, they were part of God’s big plan for Joseph’s life. One day, those dreams would come true, and God would use Joseph to help save many people, including his family. But Joseph and his brothers didn’t know that yet.
Lesson
Joseph’s story reminds us that God has a special plan for each of us. Sometimes, His plans may not make sense at first, but if we trust Him, He will guide us and use us for great things. Even when others don’t understand, we can always trust that God is working for our good.
