Sodom and Gomorrah (Genesis 19)

Sodom and Gomorrah

A long time ago, there were two cities called Sodom and Gomorrah. These cities were filled with people who made very bad choices. They didn’t listen to God or care about what was right. God was very sad to see how wicked the people had become.

But there was one man in Sodom who tried to do what was right. His name was Lot, and he was Abraham’s nephew.

The Visitors

One day, two angels came to visit Lot in Sodom. Lot saw them and quickly invited them to stay at his house.

“Come into my home,” Lot said. “You can rest here for the night and continue your journey in the morning.”

The angels agreed and went with Lot to his house. Lot prepared a meal for them and made sure they were comfortable.

The Warning

After dinner, the angels gave Lot a very serious warning.

“God is going to destroy Sodom and Gomorrah because the people here are so wicked,” they said. “You and your family must leave the city right away!”

Lot was shocked, but he trusted the angels. He hurried to tell his family what they had to do.

Lot’s Family Escapes

The next morning, the angels urged Lot to leave quickly. “Hurry! Take your wife and daughters and go!”

The angels led Lot and his family out of the city and warned them, “Run for your lives! Don’t stop, and don’t look back!”

Lot and his family ran as fast as they could. But sadly, Lot’s wife disobeyed the warning. She looked back at the city, and as soon as she did, she turned into a pillar of salt.

God’s Judgment

As Lot and his daughters reached safety, God sent fire and burning sulfur from the sky. It destroyed Sodom, Gomorrah, and everything in the cities.

But Lot and his daughters were safe because they listened to God’s warning and obeyed.

Lesson

This story reminds us to listen to God and obey His instructions. Even when it’s hard, trusting God and doing what’s right will keep us safe. And like Lot, we should always try to make good choices, even when others around us are not.
