The Tower of Babel
A long time ago, after the big flood, all the people in the world spoke the same language. They could understand each other easily, and they worked together on everything.
One day, the people decided to settle in a flat, wide land called Shinar. They came up with a big idea:
“Let’s build a city with a huge tower that reaches all the way to the sky! That way, we’ll be famous, and we won’t get separated from each other!”
But there was a problem.
The People’s Pride
The people didn’t build the tower to honor God or show their love for Him. Instead, they wanted to show off how great they were. They thought, We don’t need God. We can do everything by ourselves.
This made God very sad. He wanted people to love and trust Him, not to become proud and think they were better than Him.
God’s Plan
God came down to see the city and the tall tower the people were building. He said, “If they keep working together like this, nothing will be impossible for them. They will forget about Me completely.”
So, God came up with a plan to stop them.
Different Languages
God made the people start speaking in different languages. Suddenly, they couldn’t understand each other!
When one person said, “Pass me a brick,” another might hear, “Gibberish gibberish brick?”
When someone else said, “Let’s build the wall taller,” others heard, “Wall taller gibberish gibberish!”
Everyone became very confused, and they couldn’t work together anymore.
The Tower Stays Unfinished
Without understanding each other, the people gave up building the tower. They stopped working and started to scatter all over the earth, just as God wanted.
The tall tower was left unfinished, and the city became known as Babel, which means “confusion.”
Lesson
This story reminds us to trust God and not to be proud. God wants us to work together for good things that honor Him, not to make ourselves famous or forget about Him. When we put God first, amazing things can happen!
