1 Nephi 15:24

Note: The Lord will continue to test our ability to obey. As some things become easy to obey, he will increase the difficulty until we are capable of offering up a sacrifice equal to that of Abraham, Nephi or Joseph Smith. The day obedience becomes a quest and not an irritation is the day we gain power.

1 Nephi 3:7
And it came to pass that I, Nephi, said unto my father: I will go and do the things which the Lord hath commanded, for I know that the Lord giveth no commandments unto the children of men, save he shall prepare a way for them that they may accomplish the thing which he commandeth them.

Note: A person cannot be saved in ignorance. An eventual knowledge of the requirements to enter exaltation is required. Covenants must be made in order to receive all that the Father has and be trusted with his power.

2 Nephi 9:25
Wherefore, he has given a law; and where there is no law given there is no punishment; and where there is no punishment there is no condemnation; and where there is no condemnation the mercies of the Holy One of Israel have claim upon them, because of the atonement; for they are delivered by the power of him.

Note: How would our spirits become subject to the devil without the resurrection? It would appear that man cannot be perfected (freed from the influences of the devil) without a perfected body. A body is essential for complete salvation. I like manner, the other part of the atonement clears our souls of guilt for violation of the law, which shuts us out from the presence of God, and as a result subjects us to the more powerful commands of the devil.

2 Nephi 9:8
O the wisdom of God, his mercy and grace! For behold, if the flesh should rise no more our spirits must become subject to that angel who fell from before the presence of the Eternal God, and became the devil, to rise no more.

Note: Joy and misery appear to be tied to children. Did Eve know her progress and ability to have children were limited until she ate of the tree, or did she gain understanding after partaking of the fruit? After. She was "beguiled" in innocence and later became aware of the ramifications and educated Adam in new found knowledge.

2 Nephi 2:23
And they would have had no children; wherefore they would have remained in a state of innocence, having no joy, for they knew no misery; doing no good, for they knew no sin.

Note: Only the threat of physical destruction could cause them to repent at this point. So it is in our day with natural disasters. They are the final warning to people to repent.

And now it came to pass that when I had spoken these words they were angry with me, and were desirous to throw me into the depths of the sea; and as they came forth to lay their hands upon me I spake unto them, saying: In the name of the Almighty God, I command you that ye touch me not, for I am filled with the power of God, even unto the consuming of my flesh; and whoso shall lay his hands upon me shall wither even as a dried reed; and he shall be as naught before the power of God, for God shall smite him.

1 Nephi 17:40

Note: Symbolism:going up to the mountain to commune with god requires effort. So our communion with God requires effort.
