Note: Is he talking ot God or is he trying to remind himself. When people keep the plan of salvation in mind they generally are going to make much better decisions. When we don't think of it we become complacent and make bad ones. It's like having a final test. At the beginning of the year and we hear about the final, and we say "I have all year, pish posh." But then the test comes and we say "AAAAGHHHH!" It can't work like that for the kingdom of God. When we can a testimony of Christ and are baptised, we are under covenant to do his will. And we only have a short time to do it. Remember how short my time really is.
