Note: Ere he is aware: basically, BEFORE we even realize this is happening to us, IT IS happening.

Behold, ere he is aware, he is left unto himself, to kick against the pricks, to persecute the saints, and to fight against God.

Helaman 16:6
But the more part of them did not believe in the words of Samuel; therefore when they saw that they could not hit him with their stones and their arrows, they cried unto their captains, saying: Take this fellow and bind him, for behold he hath a devil; and because of the power of the devil which is in him we cannot hit him with our stones and our arrows; therefore take him and bind him, and away with him.

Note: Bishop Saunders has challenged us to pray for miracles. That is essentially what the brother of Jared was told to do. The Lord said he would prepare them to withstand the tribulation they were shortly going to face, but wanted him to have the faith to find a solution and pray for that to occur. The brother of Jared came up with something and very humbly took it to the Lord after he had gone to the work to do all he could do in his power. The Lord does prepare his faithful servants (i.e. me and my family) to have help and comfort through our darkest hours. We have to go through those hours of darkness and discomfort because if He were to take away those trials from us then we would never reach our "land which is choice above all other lands." However, He expects us to do our part by finding solutions and asking for His help to magnify them. It involves effort on our part just like the brother of Jared having to molten just the right stones and climbing the mountain to bring them to God. And then he asked for him to touch them and light them! What an example of asking for a miracle in complete faith. Follow his example of humility as we ask the Lord to recognize our weak offering (but the best of our abilities and human mind) and to make it whole and perfect, to provide the miracle we need to get us through our days of tribulation. If we are in tune with his spirit we will only ask for the right things so we don't need to wonder if it is His will or not and have our faith waver.

Ether 2:25
And behold, I prepare you against these things; for ye cannot cross this great deep save I prepare you against the waves of the sea, and the winds which have gone forth, and the floods which shall come. Therefore what will ye that I should prepare for you that ye may have light when ye are swallowed up in the depths of the sea?

3 Nephi 10:1
And now behold, it came to pass that all the people of the land did hear these sayings, and did witness of it. And after these sayings there was silence in the land for the space of many hours;

2 Nephi 4:15
And upon these I write the things of my soul, and many of the scriptures which are engraven upon the plates of brass. For my soul delighteth in the scriptures, and my heart pondereth them, and writeth them for the learning and the profit of my children.

Note: 1. Obedience 2. Sacrifice (time, talents, etc.) 3. Gospel (live, accept, and share the gospel) 4. Chastity (purity, loyalty, fidelity) 5. Consecration (a life dedicated to the gospel). We must have this Celestial law written in our hearts. This will help us become like Him.

D&C 88:22
For he who is not able to abide the law of a celestial kingdom cannot abide a celestial glory.

Note: Summary of Christ's mission and purpose and our part in accepting his great and eternal sacrifice. Never forget Him and what He did for me.

Mosiah 3:5
For behold, the time cometh, and is not far distant, that with power, the Lord Omnipotent who reigneth, who was, and is from all eternity to all eternity, shall come down from heaven among the children of men, and shall dwell in a tabernacle of clay, and shall go forth amongst men, working mighty miracles, such as healing the sick, raising the dead, causing the lame to walk, the blind to receive their sight, and the deaf to hear, and curing all manner of diseases.

Note: Do our trials bring us closer to God or further away from him? The choice is ours.

Alma 62:41
But behold, because of the exceedingly great length of the war between the Nephites and the Lamanites many had become hardened, because of the exceedingly great length of the war; and many were softened because of their afflictions, insomuch that they did humble themselves before God, even in the depth of humility.

2 Nephi 4:1
And now, I, Nephi, speak concerning the prophecies of which my father hath spoken, concerning Joseph, who was carried into Egypt.

Note: Be prepared to fight Satan and his temptations by listening and obeying our own leaders who are called to prepare us, from the prophet and apostles down to our local ward leaders and parents.

Alma 49:9
And it came to pass that the Lamanites, or the Amalickiahites, were exceedingly astonished at their manner of preparation for war.

Note: Charity is a major characteristic of true disciples of Christ.

Alma 26:32
For behold, they had rather sacrifice their lives than even to take the life of their enemy; and they have buried their weapons of war deep in the earth, because of their love towards their brethren.

Note: Recognize that all the good that happens to us in our life ultimately comes from God.

Alma 26:29
And we have entered into their houses and taught them, and we have taught them in their streets; yea, and we have taught them upon their hills; and we have also entered into their temples and their synagogues and taught them; and we have been cast out, and mocked, and spit upon, and smote upon our cheeks; and we have been stoned, and taken and bound with strong cords, and cast into prison; and through the power and wisdom of God we have been delivered again.

Note: 7 things Jesus taught on the cross: 1. Forgiveness (Father forgive them for they know not what they do) 2. World of Spirits (he told one of the thieves this day ye will be with me in paradise. See JST) 3. Mother (take care of my mother. Family is of utmost importance). 4. My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? (He knows how it feels to be alone and to feel unloved. He's felt all that we ever will) 5. Thirst (he suffered) 6. Finished (I've done all that I was supposed to do) 7. Spirit to Father

John 19:26
When Jesus therefore saw his mother, and the disciple standing by, whom he loved, he saith unto his mother, Woman, behold thy son!

Note: Hope means to desire something and to really believe it can happen. Do I desire the kingdom of God and really believe I will attain it?

Moroni 7:42
Wherefore, if a man have faith he must needs have hope; for without faith there cannot be any hope.

Note: They could only receive that great happiness after having suffered much sorrow knowing their sins and weaknesses. Being down brings us up.

Mosiah 4:3
And it came to pass that after they had spoken these words the Spirit of the Lord came upon them, and they were filled with joy, having received a remission of their sins, and having peace of conscience, because of the exceeding faith which they had in Jesus Christ who should come, according to the words which king Benjamin had spoken unto them.

Note: We receive personal revelation in a way that we can recognize and understand. In our own language as it says.

2 Nephi 31:3
For my soul delighteth in plainness; for after this manner doth the Lord God work among the children of men. For the Lord God giveth light unto the understanding; for he speaketh unto men according to their language, unto their understanding.

Note: If we want our children to not talk back and obey, we need to be filled with the spirit when we talk to them or discipline them.

1 Nephi 2:14
And it came to pass that my father did speak unto them in the valley of Lemuel, with power, being filled with the Spirit, until their frames did shake before him. And he did confound them, that they durst not utter against him; wherefore, they did as he commanded them.

Note: Satan is the author of the "what if's." He wants to deceive us into thinking that the trials we go through are for nothing and are not worth the reward. He knows they will strengthen us and bring us closer to God if we allow them to, and that the reward at the end is far greater than the suffering. Don't let him allow you to doubt that God knows you and provides for you in every circumstance of your life. Opposition is not a bad thing.

1 Nephi 17:21
Behold, these many years we have suffered in the wilderness, which time we might have enjoyed our possessions and the land of our inheritance; yea, and we might have been happy.

1 Nephi 8:21

Note: Follow this pattern if we want to keep our children from being destroyed: 1. Work diligently in teaching them 2. Exhort with all long-suffering 3. Teach them to be diligent 4. Teach them to keep the commandments 5. Teach them the plan of salvation (the intent for which it was given) 6. Teach them about Christ and to believe in him and that He will come again to the earth.

Jarom 1:12
And it came to pass that by so doing they kept them from being destroyed upon the face of the land; for they did prick their hearts with the word, continually stirring them up unto repentance.
